Beauty in Simplicity
Ink Paintings by Mia Christopher
Ah, simplicity. I long for it daily, although it often eludes me. One of my favorite morning reads, Simple Lovely reminded us of the elegance of simplicity yesterday.
Most mornings that the girls are at home, we usually begin with some type of focused, simple activity. Today as Sienna was lining up her necklaces on her dresser, taking inventory as she often does, I was reminded of this ink painting by Mia Christopher. Such simple beauty and a perfect painting for the girls to try.
As you can see, the girls loved this project. Looking at a work of art and talking about the techniques and elements has been such a great way to them to learn and develop those fine little motor skills. Along the way, the girls ask really funny & interesting questions, “Is this the girl who painted the sky rainbows?” “Does the ink she is stacking ever fall over?” “Why does she paint a necklace and not just make one?”
Simplicity with children takes on many complex forms, but a focused project and a good discussion are the perfect makings of a simple and beautiful day.
* Thanks Mia for the inspiration!!
