The light inside

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Ray Kappe’s light filled home he built for his family is probably one of my favorite homes of all times.

Loved Katsuya Kamo’s space featured in the Selby.

I have always liked Doug Aitken and seeing his “Acid Modernism” home put me over the top.

I dog-eared this image from Spartan awhile ago. Yes, please let me visit at the golden hour.

I love that the book sitting on Alexandria’s sun dappled table is Uta Barth.

Oh, The Glow + Kate Young…need I say more.

Good morning Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend. This is the busiest of weeks and we are getting so close to launching the site!

One of the trends that has been popping up everywhere lately is mixing patterns. What used to be a faux-pas, is now totally in. Watching the girls choose outfits, it’s almost as if they gravitate towards clashing patterns, which looks so cute and playful on them. Luckily, it’s no longer just for the toddler set, mixing patterns is trending not only in fashion but in art as well. I know I couldn’t be more thrilled that this movement is finally becoming accepted, but the question remains: are you daring enough to try this trend?

Everything I Love

Ever so often images of a home, a person, or piece of art come into my life, that simply put, rocks my world! It causes me to lose sleep as I pour over the details, dreaming of how I can incorporate elements of it into my life. Abigale Ahern’s home in London, is one of those. From the modern meets funky traditional furnishings, to the clusters of art & collected objects, this home is inspiring.

Lessons learned from Ahern’s home:

1. Be Bold. Paint a traditional piece of furniture a bright color that brings the piece alive again.
2. Cluster artwork & mix it up. Different styles of art and frames make a collection unique and interesting to view.
3. Personalize it. Infuse your space with you. Seems simple in theory, but so often homes lack the authentic touches of our lives and the things we treasure.
4. Bring the outdoors in. Plants, flowers, natural wood, windows and light are a must for a truly relaxing environment.
5. Create vignettes. Group objects together to create a gathering place of interest for collected treasures.
